WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?

Climate change is defined as a long-term shift in global or regional climate patterns. Climate change differs from the weather as it is measured for a long period. The complexity of the climate change lead to the less predictable of weather and in conjunction of that, it is also connected with another natural disaster such as an intense hurricane, winter storms and floods. Another relatable that contributes to climate change is a man-made disaster such as global warming (from industrial technology, open combustion etc). The high temperature of the global caused the glacier to melt gradually. If this happens, the sea level will rise and broke the coastlines which resulting in the flooding and erosion.

CLIMATE CHANGE AS A THREAT

Climate change threats to our food system. Report from Food Research International stated that “the three major challenges have arisen that threaten to drastically complicate efforts to overcome food insecurity and malnutrition: climate change, the growing use of food crops as a source of biofuel and soaring food prices”. Climate change attacks food security at the very first dimension of food security which is food availability. Without the food availability, the following dimensions, accessibility, utility and sustainability could not be secure.

Destroy the Crops Production

Heatwaves, droughts, storms, cyclones, hurricanes, and floods destroy the crop production including the growth and the harvesting thus limiting the food resources. Apart from that, the farm animals also being affected. Climate change made the animals to be easily infected by diseases due to the poor growth condition and the food supply.

Decreased Freshwater Resources

Flood contaminated the freshwater, limiting the food and the oxygen sources of the aquatic lives. In more severe cases, the sudden attack from the seawater to the land such as Tsunami caused the fishes (especially) swept away to the land. The abundance of these fishes on the land is eventually dying. The supposed to be freshwater resources are no longer available.

Water and Food Hygiene Sanitation Problem

As climate change hit, water and food hygiene are also threatened. The availability of clean water for consumption and personal care is no longer secure. This may lead to the arisen of health problems such as diarrhoea and cholera.

Damage to Forestry, Livestock Fishery and Aquaculture.

In overall, climate change transforms the whole nation into a different state. The storms, flood and the more tragically, hurricane destroy everything in one swap in the blink of eyes. From the forestry, livestock fishery, aquaculture and many more.
